Inpatient Coder/Outpatient/Cancer Registrar
Title: Inpatient Coder/ Outpatient/ Cancer Registrar
Department: Health Information Management
Job Summary: Identifies and accurately codes diagnoses and procedures on all inpatient charts as well as observation records and physical therapy charts, utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding classification systems. The Inpatient Coder will also identify, collect and maintain timely, accurate and complete information about cancer diagnosed and/or treated within the organization and will disseminate information in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, facility policy and professional ethics.
Qualification (Minimum):
• Education:
o Certification through AAPC or AHIMA as a Certified Coding Specialist.
o High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience:
o 5 years experience coding in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding Classifications.
o personal computer, coding software, and compliance software.
o Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of Federal (CMS) coding guidelines
Knowledge of ICD10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding systems
Knowledge of ICD10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding guidelines
Knowledge of requirements of commercial insurance carriers.
Ability to complete work thoroughly and accurately
Flexible, self-motivated, well-organized, efficient, accurate and detail oriented.
